Today during Black History Month, we celebrate a queen - former Miss TSU, Ms. Barbara C. Murrell - on her 88th birthday! 

From Miss Tennessee State (1959–60) to becoming the first female Vice President at TSU and on the Tennessee Board of Regents, Ms. Murrell’s leadership has shaped generations.

She continues that impact as founding administrator of the Dr. Levi Watkins Jr. Institute, creating a direct pipeline for TSU students into healthcare professions including meharrymedicalcollege and Belmont’s Thomas Frist Jr. College of Medicine (fristmed).
