## Caption

I’m waiting for it, that green light, I want it 💚 🟢🍀

The aurora australis, or southern lights, arc in glowing green over the Indian Ocean in this view from the International Space Station. This photo was taken as the ISS orbited over Australia and Antarctica on June 12, 2025, 269 miles above Earth.

On Friday, Feb. 13, the four members of NASA's SpaceX Crew-12 mission are scheduled to lift off to the station. During their extended scientific mission, they'll have the chance to fly over (and sometimes through!) these brilliant auroral displays. Using handheld digital cameras, many astronauts take photos and videos through the windows in the station’s cupola, a dome-shaped module providing a panoramic, 360-degree view of Earth and space.

The space station’s crew have taken hundreds of thousands of images of the Moon, Earth, atmosphere, and other sights as part of their crew Earth observations.

Image description: A vivid green arc of the aurora australis glows above a partly cloudy view of the Indian Ocean. Earth’s atmosphere is a dark yellow curve separating the swirling globe of blue and white from the darkness of space, faintly dotted with stars.
