This past week WMO Secretary-General Celeste Saulo was in Malawi to see first-hand, efforts by the government and communities to deliver early warning systems that reach everyone, everywhere. 

The people of Malawi are on the frontlines of climate crisis and face the devastating impacts of extreme weather. Investing in disaster risk reduction is more important than ever. A heads-up so people can get out of harm’s way before extreme weather arrives, saves lives. 

Led by the Climate Risk & Early Warning Systems (CREWS) Initiative, implemented by the World Meteorological Organization (WMO) in collaboration with UNDRR and the World Bank’s Global Facility for Disaster Reduction and Recovery, the project supports countries like Malawi to strengthen their forecasting and early warning systems, protecting people and the livelihoods they depend on.
