How do you get to the PGA Tour? 🏆 We’ve broken down the steps to help you get there! But make no mistake — this is one of the toughest paths in sport. Let’s start with the conventional route.  Unless you’re Happy Gilmore, you’ll need to be an exceptional amateur. Around 65% of PGA Tour Players went to a US college to hone their skills. After college,  most players will go through Q school which is a gruelling process. Q School starts with a 54-hole pre-qualifier, builds through two brutal 72-hole stages as higher-ranked players enter, and ends in one final 72 hole showdown. That's up to 270 holes of golf against some seriously good golfers. And the prize? Korn Ferry Tour status for the following season. That’s right, you haven’t even got to the big league yet. To earn a PGA Tour card, you must play a season on the Korn Ferry Tour and finish top 25 on the money list or win three times for automatic promotion. It’s a long and expensive road to get to the PGA Tour conventionally, but if you’re really good at golf there are easier ways! You can directly qualify for PGA Tour events and majors, or receive invites and sponsors exemptions. If you do well in these events, you might be able to earn enough points to secure a Special Temporary Membership or even a full PGA Tour card. Nick Dunlap was still an amateur when he won the 2024 American Express on a sponsor’s exemption, a victory that earned him a two-year PGA Tour card. And finally, you can qualify for the pga tour through other tours. You can earn direct access to the Korn Ferry Tour by finishing inside the top 10 of the PGA Tour University rankings, placing in the top 10 on PGA Tour Latinoamérica, or ending the season in the top five on the PGA Tour Canada. And if you finish in the top 10 on the European tour you get a PGA Tour card.
