Chappell Roan has politely but firmly shut down an Australian touring tradition during her Laneway Festival set on the Gold Coast.�

During her show on Friday (7 February), the ‘Pink Pony Club’ singer was urged by the crowd to do a “shoey” (an Aussie ritual that involves drinking alcohol from a shoe), before realising what was being asked of her.

“Drink a beer out of the shoe?” Roan asked, before making her stance crystal clear: “No. No, no, no, no.I want to talk about being gay.” 

Her pivot earned the singer an even louder response from the festival audience.
