Some things really don’t change. And who doesn't love a story about a nice Jewish doctor?!

As we continue our nostalgic journey through 50 years of DJDS leading up to our Annual Dinner on March 10, today’s throwback goes back 40 years, when our school was just hitting double digits, and features this year’s alumni speaker, Dr. Noah Makovsky.

In 1986, a freshman Noah earned an honorable mention at the science fair for a project on how different types of smoke affect plant growth. Today, “Dr. Noah,” as he’s known to his patients at Colorado Kids Pediatrics, is still doing what DJDS students have always done best—asking questions, staying curious, and finding ways to help people grow.

A fourth-generation Coloradan, Noah attended RMHA from 7th through 12th grade, went on to the University of Pennsylvania and the University of Colorado School of Medicine, completed his pediatric residency at Children’s Hospital Los Angeles, and returned home to Denver to build Colorado Kids Pediatrics into a practice serving families across the metro area. In 2024, he co-founded Trekwise, supporting parents and teens through virtual behavioral health care, and he continues to serve the broader community through local leadership and engagement.

And in a full-circle moment that feels especially right in our 50th year, two of Dr. Makovsky’s own children are DJDS graduates—reminding us that the story of this school is continues to be written across generations.

Some things change. Curiosity, community, and care for others don’t.

Now for your Throwback Thursday Challenge, who wants to venture a guess at who the other Science Fair winners are in the photo from 1986?
