📌Grayson Highlands State Park is one of my favorite state parks in Virginia for so many reasons:

• you can see wild & feral ponies along the trails
• among the highest mountain peaks in the state, many over 5,000 feet and the landscape vastly changes above the tree line. The views are panoramic & absolutely epic! 
• fantastic day hiking and backpacking trails 
• the Appalachian Trail runs right through the park 
• beautiful overlooks

🥾 Great Trails in the Park:

- Massie Gap to Wilburn Ridge Loop 2.3 miles 
- Twin Pinnacles Trail 1.6 miles 
- Haw Orchard to Twin Pinnacles 2 miles 
- Massie Gap to Elk Garden 8.8 miles 
- Scales via the Appalachian Trail 7.6 miles

⛺️You can also primitive camp along the Appalachian Trail if you are backpacking. I have tent camped along the trail in multiple locations several times and it’s absolutely magical when you wake up in the morning open up your tent and you’re surrounded by ponies. 
 
🏕️ You can also tent camp in the 80 campsites at the park or stay in one of the 4 yurts. But there are no cabins there.
