Student Spotlight: Shaan Desai ’27 ✨

Shaan, a computer science major from Houston, has been passionate about the field for as long as he can remember. From tinkering with his family’s computers to teaching himself to code in middle school, that early curiosity followed him to Trinity and has evolved into a focused path forward.

“What surprised me most is how many different areas of computer science we explore,” he says. “The variety helped me figure out what I actually want to do after graduation.”

Small class sizes, supportive professors, and collaborative projects have shaped Shaan’s experience:

➡️ Working directly with H-E-B software engineers on a real software project

➡️ Leading Trinity’s Association for Computing Machinery chapter and building community

➡️ Late-night study sessions, team-based learning, and friendships that feel like a shared journey

“The collaborative group elements of a lot of my classes have helped develop the people skills and teamwork that are so important in the real world,” he says. “You can always learn new technical skills for a job, but the experience of working in teams toward a common goal is something that requires hands-on learning, and I think Trinity has been fantastic in preparing me for that real-world setting.”

His advice for future computer science majors at Trinity?

“Take advantage of the amazing computer science community, for both personal growth and career development. Go to events, tutoring, office hours—you’ll learn so much, and the people you meet might become lifelong friends.”
