Going to Thailand but want somewhere a bit less touristy? These are the places to add to your itinerary if you want quieter beaches and fewer people. They may take a little more time to get to, but they are SO worth the journey!

• Koh Lipe: a tiny island is near the Malaysian border, clear water, great snorkelling and a more remote feel than the usual islands. Best visited: Nov–April

• Koh Jum: Slow, sleepy island between Krabi and Lanta. No big resorts here, just simple bungalows & empty beaches. Best visited: Nov–April

• Surin Islands: off-grid National park islands with some of the best snorkelling in Thailand. You’ll need to plan ahead (I have a reel with the details) Best visited: Nov–April

• Koh Ngai: this island has no roads, just beachfront stays and the bluest water. Excellent choice if you want to switch off properly. Best visited: Nov–April

• Koh Libong: Local, quiet and very untouched. You come here for nature, but not nightlife. Best visited: Nov–April

• Koh Mook: Home to the Emerald Cave, has a little nightlife but is more relaxed than nearby hotspots. Best visited: Nov–April

• Ban Rak Thai: Mountain village near the Myanmar border with tea plantations and epic drives. Doesn’t feel like Thailand at all. Best visited: Nov–Feb

• Koh Yao Yai: Close to Phuket but a completely different pace. Rubber plantations, quiet beaches and barely any nightlife. Best visited: Nov–April
