Jordan has historically functioned as a corridor.

Positioned between Africa, Asia, and Europe, it became a passageway used for trade — spice routes, incense routes, pilgrimage routes.

Armies. Merchants. Missionaries.

Empires cycling in and out.

Standing in Petra, you’re looking at the influence of Nabataean engineering. Roman roads and architecture. 🏛️Byzantine rule. Islamic dynasties. Ottoman administration. British border-carving. Each era layering over the last without fully erasing it.

Jordan has been governed, claimed, reorganized, and redrawn repeatedly.

And yet the Bedouin way of life — movement, resilience, loyalty to tribe and land rather than throne — predates most of those rulers and certainly outlasted them.

While political power shifted and surrendered above ground, nomadic culture persisted across the desert and in the mountains. 🐪

It wasn’t fixed to walls or palaces or capitals… but to the rhythm of nature, survival, their beloved camels, and binding codes of hospitality. 🤲🏼

As a land the world has crossed through, passed over, and taken from, you’d expect it to harden….

But like the canyon walls of the wadis and the silky sand of Wadi Rum — I found that harsh conditions have made for softer edges. 💛

Jordanians are some of the toughest people I’ve met on earth, and also the most generous and gentle. They’ll pour tea and cook a meal fit for royalty for any stranger who walks through their doors. ☕️

They’ll call you “welcome” before even knowing your name.

It’s one of my favorite places on earth — embracing me with open arms the last two times I visited solo. And in a couple months I get to return, bringing with me a group of 14 travelers from around the world who will get to be swept away in Jordan’s magic. 🤗

Thank you Jordan, can’t wait to see you again soon. 🇯🇴
