Draco Malfoy has become a very unlikely symbol of China’s Lunar New Year 🧧

Tom Felton has gone viral after festive decorations adorning his childhood face as the Harry Potter villain began appearing across China.

Red festive home decor and merchandise, from posters and magnets to phone cases, have been selling like hot cakes.

There’s even a huge digital billboard of Malfoy hanging several stories high inside a shopping mall in Henan province.

In Mandarin, Malfoy’s name writes out as ‘mǎ ěr fú,’ which loosely translates to ‘horse fortune.’

With this year being the Year of the Horse, it suddenly makes sense that Malfoy has become an unofficial mascot.

If you’re wondering whether the actor himself has realised, don’t worry - he’s very aware.

Tom even shared an image of the delightful decorations on his Instagram earlier in the month.
