I hate that this is still a conversation in 2026.

I’m scared of a very simple scenario:

That I get sick, show up to a doctor’s office in Tennessee, and a provider can refuse to treat me because my life doesn’t align with their “deeply held beliefs.”

HB1473 / SB1746 is being framed as “about marriage,” but the impact is bigger than symbolism. It’s another step toward letting private people and institutions pick and choose which families they’ll recognize — and that spills into real life: paperwork, next-of-kin decisions, hospital visitation, and who gets treated with dignity.

I don’t want special treatment. I want the same basic promise everyone expects when they’re vulnerable: if I’m sick, I can get care—no questions about who I love.
