Just moments ago, the first trial verdict on the December 3 martial law case was delivered at the Seoul Central District Court.

Former President Yoon Suk-yeol was sentenced to life in prison on charges of leading an insurrection.

The court stated that there were no sufficient signs of war or a comparable national emergency to justify declaring martial law, and that the declaration disrupted the constitutional order.

The ruling said that even a president can be found guilty of insurrection, and that if a martial law declaration infringes on the authority of the National Assembly, it may constitute insurrection.

The court also concluded that sending troops to the National Assembly was central to the case, describing it as an attempt to use force against the legislature.

Regarding presidential immunity, the court noted that while a sitting president may have protection from prosecution, investigations themselves are permitted.

Other sentences handed down were as follows:
- Yoon Suk-yeol: life in prison
- Kim Yong-hyun: 30 years
- Noh Sang-won: 18 years
- Cho Ji-ho: 12 years
- Kim Bong-sik: 10 years
