I realised recently how much effort we put into the *big trips* each year. The one, or two if we’re lucky, long haul trips that we get excited for and plan & work towards all year.

The research. The bookings. The outfits. The amount of time we put into these trips!

And I think maybe we’ve attached too much meaning to distance. We make the mistake of reserving our effort for trips that feel *significant* to us. We make more effort when there’s a plane or passport involved.

But distance isn’t what actually makes our trips feel more meaningful or significant.

It’s the break from routine that makes it feel significant - the feeling we get when we step outside our normal pace, our usual setting, the version of the day we’ve already repeated all week. Or week we’ve repeated all year so far.

So do we really need a big trip to access that? Or are we saving that feeling for once or twice a year when it’s more available than we think?

It can mean doing a short road trip instead of a long haul flight, dinner somewhere new, or letting the non-planning friend or partner pick what you do that day. There are so many small things we can do that get us excited about & reconnected with our lives every day.

For us yesterday it meant travelling 5 stops away on the tube and redeeming some hotel credits to do a city staycation for the night 🤭 Tim’s been bogged down with work, I’m busy preparing for upcoming tours - and we were feeling like we hadn’t had enough proper together, actually chatting & going on a proper date. We weren’t even gone for 24 hours and it was *such* a reset 🫶🏻 easier, cheaper & better than any big trip I could have planned

I think I’m becoming a bit of a convert to the little trips! What do you think?

📍 We stayed at the Kromo hotel, near Phrom Pong in Bangkok. Not a gifted stay obviously - it was stunning but it’s 5* so it’s a little spenny. They do good last minute mid week deals (around £150 a night)
