## Caption

The narrative used to be that in going to an HBCU, you’re sacrificing three things: development as a player, your opportunity to get seen, and now with NIL, your chances to get paid. Let’s break down why all three of those are just not the case anymore.

1.) Development

Some of the best coaches in the game are at HBCUs. If I was Travis Hunter playing cornerback, why would I not want to get coached by the guy who is the greatest of all time at the position in Deion Sanders at @gojsutigersfb ? Same logic applies to Eddie George at @tsutigersfb .

2.) Opportunity To Get Seen

HBCU games have always been must-see events in the communities these schools are in, but now they’re getting national attention. Jackson State just had Barstool do a full Last Chance U type documentary on their football team. There’s also always the bottom line: if you’re good they’ll find you, especially in 2022. Some of the game’s greatest played at HBCUs: @jerryrice , Deacon Jones, @shannonsharpe84, and Walter Payton. Arguably the best linebacker in the league, @mr_highflyer10 , played his college ball at South Carolina State.

3.) Opportunity To Get Paid

Grambling State was one of the first football programs to get all their players making annual income from NIL. Adidas announced in March it was starting their first paid affiliate brand ambassador program for college athletes. The conferences they picked to roll this out with were the Power 5 and HBCUs.

End of the day: I’m excited to watch some MEAC and SWAC football this year. @shedeursanders & @db3_tip make Jackson State must watch on both sides of the ball. @jlew_32 is a real deal speed rusher at Southern. @joshuapryor is going to have NFL guys watching some Bowie State games. Celebration Bowl MVP, @shaqfu_ is a human highlight reel at South Carolina State. J.J. Davis had an unreal All-American season in Norfolk State’s backfield. I could keep going, but to save time I’ll just say download @hbcugo.tv before the fall.
