## Caption

A portable system that combines fiber-based physiological sensing and facial thermal imaging provides a fuller picture in the monitoring of complex emotions.

Facial expressions could be consciously exaggerated and unreliable when determining emotions. Instead, this sensor relies on naturally occurring and automatic responses such as heartbeat and thermal imaging. 

Eventually, the system could support at-home mental health monitoring, improve driver safety and make technology more responsive to human emotions.
