Everything you need to know about attending Jamaica Carnival (SAVE + SHARE this post):

Your favorite traveling mamas are back at it again!!! Both of us are Jamaican🇯🇲, so you KNOW we had the best time jumping on the road! Here’s what you should know about this yearly event!

1. Carnival in Jamaica is held a week after Easter so it can fall in March or April, this year it was held on April 16th.

2. The road march takes place in Kingston but there are also Carnival events in Ocho Rios leading up to road march.

3. The bands you can play mas with include GenXS Jamaica (who we played with), Xodus and Yard Mas. Personally do not recommend Xodus at all 👀👀 but there are people who are loyal to them.

4. While playing mas is a one day event in Jamaica there are plenty of fetes to attend the days before. Our favorites are Jouvert (you can do it with GenXS, Caesar’s Army, or Bacchanal (RedAntz), Duck Work and Sunrise Breakfast. Others to consider are Soca Brainwash, Strut, and Sunkissed but you can always find a full list of fetes on @ carnivalinjamaica’s page.

5. The best hotel to stay at in the AC Hotel by Marriott but you can also check out the R Hotel, ROK Hotel, Spanish Court and Pegasus in addition to vacation rentals.

6. If you don’t feel comfortable renting a car and driving in Jamaica it’s best to hire a driver to take you to/from the events. We recommend Marlon and you can reach him on WhatsApp at +1-876-434-8835. Uber is also available but it can be tricky during this busy time as lots of people are trying to get one.

7. The best airport to fly into is Kingston. While flights to Montego Bay are often cheaper it’s 2.5 hours away and you’ll need t pay for a rather expensive taxi to Kingston or you can take the Knutsford Express bus for $25 but as it makes stops it will take about 3.5-4hrs.
