LIONS ADVANCE TO ADHSHL TITLE GAME: The jserrahockey team is one victory away from a championship, as the top-seeded Lions defeated Central Cathedral 5-3 in an ADHSHL Valley Conference semifinals game on Friday at Great Park Ice and FivePoint Arena in Irvine.

JSerra is now 19-2 on the season and will play the winner of Saturday’s semifinal game between Saddleback United and San Diego United for the Valley Conference championship next Friday night at Great Park Ice and FivePoint Arena.

Juniors Griffin Blake and Caden Fernandez found the back of the net in the final 5:16 of the opening period to stake the Lions to a 2-0 lead.

Central Cathedral battled back with two goals in a 50 second span early in the second period to tie the game at 2-2.

Freshman Kyle Bennett provided the go-ahead score of the game at the 8:48 mark of the second quarter.

Bennett tallied his team-leading 40th goal of the season with 6:05 left in the third period to give the Lions a 4-2 lead.

Central Cathedral narrowed the deficit to one goal with 3:10 left, but freshman Aaron Lee scored the final goal of the game 50 seconds later to close out the Lions’ victory.
