Hungary says it will block a proposed €90 billion EU loan for Ukraine unless Russian oil shipments resume through the Druzhba pipeline.⁣
⁣
Prime Minister Viktor Orban warned Budapest “will not stand idly by” after oil transit through Ukraine was halted. Hungary has begun tapping strategic reserves to address potential shortages.⁣
⁣
Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto accused Kyiv of violating the EU-Ukraine Association Agreement and called the move “blackmail.” Hungary says it will refuse diesel exports to Ukraine, oppose new military financing, and reject the EU’s upcoming sanctions package.⁣
⁣
Oil shipments to Hungary and Slovakia have been suspended since January 27. Kyiv says a Russian drone strike damaged pipeline infrastructure in western Ukraine. Budapest and Bratislava blame Ukraine for the prolonged disruption.⁣
⁣
Slovakia has also threatened to halt emergency electricity supplies to Ukraine if oil transit is not restored.⁣
⁣
Ukraine’s Foreign Ministry rejected what it described as “ultimatums and blackmail,” condemning the threats from both governments.⁣
⁣
The dispute marks one of the sharpest tensions between Ukraine and two EU and NATO members whose leaders have taken a more Moscow-friendly stance than much of Europe.⁣
