We want to be clear: @sugarfreetalk and the MCSO have always followed the law, including matters involving U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement @icegov. Both reps Brenden Jones and Mike Schietzelt should recognize that while the Sheriff may disagree with certain ICE practices, he still complies with the law. Disagreement does not equal defiance.

The Sheriff has never attacked or badgered the North Carolina General Assembly on this issue, as the committee claims he has. The Sheriff has simply asked for mutual respect. In the clip, Sheriff McFadden questions committee members about the intent behind House Bill 318. His concern stems from House Bill 10, which he argued did not clearly address the legal process for transferring an individual with pending state charges into ICE custody.

As the Sheriff has said himself: he is direct, outspoken, and unafraid to ask questions when clarity is needed.
