This stunning architectural gem was commissioned by Alva Belmont (formerly Vanderbilt) in 1912, but it was far more than a wealthy socialite’s whim. After Oliver Belmont’s death, Alva reopened Marble House and added the Chinese Tea House on the seaside cliff, where she hosted rallies for women’s suffrage.
