Bigger than Baseball.

You're not just attending a game when you walk through those gates at Phil Welch, you instantly become a part of the family of Mustangs Nation.

Part of our family is the Fox family- Emily, Nathan, Boston, Maddox, and Madeline.
Members of the Mustangs Kids Club randomly get paired with Mustangs players, and Madeline was paired with Mustangs player Cole Slibowski a few seasons ago. Madeline and Cole instantly found a bond- Cole's mother had battled cancer, and Maddie was diagnosed with High Risk Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia at just 2 years old on 12/28/2017. She was life flighted to Children's Mercy, and received 3 years of intense treatment that ranged from daily chemo meds, weekly spinal taps, to weekend long chemo treatments, countless hospital admissions and ambulance rides. She was on a feeding tube for 18 months and had to relearn how to eat.

Cole and Maddie became instant friends, and the Fox family is a big part of the Mustangs Nation family. They have also formed a great friendship with current Mustangs player, Trevor McCollum. Trevor was central in organizing this first pitch opportunity for the family, and has adopted St. Joseph and the community members here as his own.

We celebrated this moment because Maddie's last treatment was on her 5th birthday. She has been cancer free now for five years!

Thank you Fox family for being a part of our family. The victories in life are bigger than anything on the scoreboard.
