President Trump on Monday said, "You read about all these crazy shooters, but they only go after consequential presidents."  

He mentioned the assassinations of Abraham Lincoln and John F. Kennedy.

The comments come after a man was shot and killed on Sunday at Mar-a-Logo.

A 21-year-old man from Cameron, North Carolina, was shot and killed by law enforcement after he attempted to breach the perimeter of Mar-a-Lago while armed with a gas can and a shotgun.

The man, identified as Austin Tucker Martin, had graduated from Union Pines High School three years prior and had started his own artwork company, Fresh Sky Illustrations, focused on golf course illustrations in 2025.

According to officials, Martin was confronted by Secret Service agents at the gates of Mar-a-Lago. After being ordered to drop his weapons, he let go of the gas can but raised his shotgun, prompting officers to open fire.

Martin was shot by two U.S. Secret Service agents and a deputy from the Palm Beach Sheriff's Office. No law enforcement officers were injured in the incident.
