The President of World Boxing, Gennadiy Golovkin, and Secretary General, Tom Dielen, recently held a meeting with Filomena Fortes, the President of the Cape Verdean Olympic Committee and an International Olympic Committee Member.
 
The meeting discussed Cabo Verde’s application to join World Boxing, which is being facilitated through the National Olympic Committee and President Fortes, and went on to explore opportunities for potential future collaboration including training camps in partner countries to support athlete and coach development and strengthen Cabo Verde’s international competitiveness.
 
Cabo Verde’s application for membership is currently being reviewed by World Boxing and, provided it meets the necessary criteria for joining, it will be considered for Endorsed Member status at the next meeting of World Boxing Executive Board in March, with a view to being put forward for full approval at World Boxing’s next Congress in November 2026.
