#HabitatUncoveR3D with Nicki Meharg (morlo_wildlife)

Cinematographer Nicki Meharg spent two and a half months in Egypt on a self-led expedition, combining filmmaking with field research. Partnering with an eco dive resort, she produced marketing films while securing dedicated time to capture high-quality footage for future conservation storytelling.

Working across open ocean and benthic environments, Nicki filmed sharks, rays, and dugongs alongside smaller, often overlooked species. The project demanded constant adaptability, capturing behavior, habitat, and scale in challenging and changing conditions. Extended time in the water also allowed her to test and refine a suite of specialist underwater equipment developed over the past year.

Shooting on the RED GEMINI in a Nauticam housing system, Nicki paired her setup with a range of tailored lenses to suit each environment. The expedition became both a creative project and a technical proving ground, with footage now being developed as a proof of concept for future collaborations.

Currently, Nicki is working with Natur am Byth natur_am_byth and the Pembrokeshire Special Area of Conservation to document native oyster restoration, continuing her focus on and collaborations in impact-driven storytelling that support marine conservation efforts.

For Nicki, filmmaking is a tool to help close the funding gap in conservation, using powerful visuals to support research, unlock resources, and inspire meaningful change in how we protect our oceans.
