For centuries, the South Pole existed only as an idea — a blank space at the bottom of the map.

Early expeditions moved slowly across the Antarctic Plateau, navigating crevassed ice, extreme cold, and complete isolation with limited equipment and no certainty of success.

Today, the Pole still sits at the same altitude — over 2,800 metres above sea level — on a vast expanse of ice that stretches uninterrupted for thousands of kilometres. What has changed is access, made possible through specialist aircraft, precise planning, and narrow windows of favourable conditions.

To arrive is to stand at one of the most historically significant and geographically extreme points on Earth — a place defined not by what surrounds it, but by the effort required to reach it.
