Fourth graders are discovering what it means to be a Changemaker — and this week, they met one in real life.

SAS Lower School was honored to welcome David Bourell, Temple Foundation Professor Emeritus at The University of Texas at Austin and a pioneer in 3D printing and additive manufacturing. Dr. Bourell was part of the original team credited with inventing laser sintering — now one of the most widely used 3D printing technologies — and was the first person in the world to 3D print a metal part.

Students got an up-close look at advanced 3D-printed components and learned how this technology is transforming everything from toys and jewelry to biomedical implants, prosthetics, aerospace components, architecture, and art.

From big ideas to real-world impact, our fourth graders are seeing firsthand how innovation can shape the future. 🚀
