Our next Mahogany Icon is The golden child Chicago girly ✨—meet Layla Stubbs, a junior Dance Performance & Choreography major at Spelman College whose artistry, leadership, and vision move far beyond the stage. A creative force rooted in storytelling and community, Layla blends movement, culture, and innovation in everything she touches.
She is the Founder of SpelHop Dance Squad, Spelman’s newest hip-hop squad pushing individuality and fearless performance, and served as Captain of Mahogany N Motion (2024–2025), leading with passion, discipline, and heart. Layla is also a proud member of Spelman Dance Theatre, where she continues to sharpen her technical and expressive range.
Beyond dance, she is deeply committed to service and leadership as a Gifted Girls of Grace Mentor, Undergraduate Research & Training Programs Peer Mentor, and Spelman Ambassador (2025)—using her voice to uplift, guide, and represent Spelman with excellence

As a marketer and content creator, Layla has worked within advertising and social media spaces, gaining hands-on experience through internships and brand-focused digital strategy, where she merges storytelling, culture, and visual impact to amplify voices and ideas.
