Of course I buy bananas just so they can sit on the counter and ripen so that I can make this cake …. Doesn’t everyone do that?? 🍌 🍌 

Old-fashioned banana cake frosted with a silky smooth chocolate cream cheese frosting very well be my favorite cake flavor combination ever. There is something so nostalgic not to mention it is just so darn delicious 

**To make your own buttermilk, in a measuring cup add 1 tablespoons of lemon juice or cider vinegar, fill the rest of the one cup measuring cup with milk. Stir and let sit for 10 minutes.  Voila! Buttermilk!

Old-fashioned Banana Cake with Chocolate Cream Cheese Frosting

Cake:
3 large ripe bananas (about 1 and 1/2 cups mashed)
3 cups all-purpose flour 
1 tsp baking powder
1 tsp baking soda
1/2 tsp cinnamon
1/2 tsp salt
3/4 cup unsalted butter, softened to room temperature
1 cup granulated sugar
1/2 cup brown sugar
3 large eggs
2 tsp vanilla 
1 and 1/2 cups buttermilk 

Preheat the oven to 350F and spray a 9×13 inch pan with cooking spray. 
In a small bowl, mix the flour, baking powder, baking soda and salt together. Set aside. 
In a stand mixer, beat the butter and both sugars together until creamed together. Add the eggs one at a time and then the  vanilla. Add the mashed bananas. Add the dry ingredients alternating with the buttermilk until  just until incorporated. 
Spread batter into the prepared pan. 
*** optional is to sprinkle the cake with 1 cup of chocolate chips before baking.  Not necessary to do this at all!

Bake for 45-50 minutes or until done in the center.

Frosting:�½ cup unsalted butter softened�8 oz cream cheese softened �1 tsp vanilla extract�¼ tsp salt�3 ½ cups powdered sugar �½ cup unsweetened cocoa 

In the bowl of a stand mixer, combine the butter and cream cheese and beat until creamy. Add vanilla and salt and stir well to combine. Add powdered sugar until completely combined.
Add cocoa powder and beat until smooth
