This has taken me a long time to share but I’m finally ready. If you’ve known me within the decade, we’ve definitely talked about our natural hair together. I went through a grueling journey that I know many other Black women (and men) have experienced at the hands of “natural hair” misinformation. In the early 2010’s the resurgence of the “Natural Hair Movement” also came with an unprecedented amount of misinformation. So much that not only did we believe it, many hair stylists also believed it and profited from the misinformation by also selling serums, hair growth oils, and gimmicks that preyed on Black women’s quest to understand how to properly take care of their hair.

For the past two years, I’ve regained my confidence by properly re-educating myself from licensed tight curl specialists but virtually and in-person and I can finally say that “I love my hair” and that I am no longer a prisoner to my hair. No more breakdowns. No more being frustrated. I’ve been nervous to share this because parts of me feel humiliated and also scared to be vulnerable against a huge industry. This testimony is in no way shaming your current hair state but an opportunity to reflect on your own journey and using the resources to help improve your haircare & reach your desired hair goals. No more oils, no more butter, no more creams, no more hair charts, no more food on your hair. The real answer is incredibly simple.

I want to thank monarchcurlstudio, camillejanaehair, hairbyjenniferrosenyc, yesherstudio, iamblackgirlcurls, protectedbylisahh, carmenveal, renaissancecurls, and all of the other licensed tight curl specialists who dedicate their job to properly educate curly girls like myself. Your services have truly saved me and others. Thank you for listening. I hope you find inspiration in this video as much as I did creating it. This is NOT sponsored. I’m just a passionate nerd who loves storytelling.
