I was able to raise my CARS score from 126 (72nd percentile) to a 130 (98th present) on my retake in just 3 weeks using only the AAMC practice exams as a resource. The key to CARS is not to extrapolate. Simple as that. This is counterintuitive to many of us because throughout english classes in high school and college, we are taught to find meaning in the subtleties of novels and connect ideas. In school, your interpretation of the text based on your personal experience was valid, even celebrated 🤓 It is critical that you throw all of that out the window for the MCAT CARS section. If the passage does not DIRECTLY connect two things, we cannot allow ourselves to make a leap, even if it may feel like a reasonable implication!! You have to recognize where your subjective mind comes into play when interpreting things. The first step in this is simply recognizing that this is even happening. Then you can start to dismantle your automatic thought process. I would often write reminders to myself throughout the CARS section like “don’t assume!!” or “how do you know?” to keep my mind in check. This will feel difficult at first, but the more you break it down with each question the easier it becomes — more details on this in my MCAT guide with exam strategy broken down by section in my bio 📚 Good luck out there MCAT soldiers 🫡 #MCAT #Premed #MedicalSchool #MedSchool #premedadvice
