I survived intern year of residency!! I moved to a brand new city thanks to The Match one year ago not knowing a single person, and now I feel like I have a family. This really is some Grey’s Anatomy type shit. Rotating around different specialties in the hospital from being down in the emergency room, to sharing a work room with my five psych co-Resident besties, to neurology consults, I really got to experience the full microculture of being a resident in the hospital. I got to consult friends from other services, I got to watch my friends teach Medical students and lead inpatient teams. I got to attend Grand Rounds lectures every week and listen to the leading researchers in my field speak on this amazingly impactful specialty.

I’ve taken Q4 16 hour internal medicine call days holding the Code blue / rapid response pager, i’ve worked 12 days in a row, I’ve worked almost every single weekend this year, and almost every holiday. But I also prioritized making time for my life outside of medicine. I sacrificed rest for fulfillment and I’m so happy I did everything that I could to still make life outside of Medicine happen while in residency. I really didn’t know if it would be possible but here we are!!

To the new interns starting, I’m so excited for you, this is everything you’ve worked for your entire life about to begin🤍

I just updated my inpatient medicine survival guide (linked in my bio) for any new interns or Med Students about to start Clerkship or sub Internship 🩺 there is so much hidden curriculum in medicine so I made this guide to include everything that I wish someone had told me before starting on wards!
