## Caption

Gone are the days' journalists are assigned "beats," allowing them to immerse themselves in a topic important to their viewers. Now, most local journalists are "general assignment" reporters that wear many hats — including videographer, editor, social media manager, and more. 

Even though we do the work of 4+ people's jobs, we get paid one measly salary. Who suffers from this "money-saving" approach? Everybody. Journalists. Management teams. Viewers. Local entities that depend on thorough coverage of the issues. Is it going to change? No. It’s only going to get worse. That’s why I jumped ship and left the business three years ago. Many others are following suit — and leaving their full-time media jobs to freelance. When you put profit over people, this is the result.
