My friend jb.somers wrote this with nellmaudemaynard + franlitterski , and if you grew up in the South and felt “a little different,” you’ll hear yourself in every line.

And in this moment it’s making me ask: what is a real man?

Because the people pushing the most dangerous legislation might call themselves “real men” — but to me, real is tenderness. Real is courage. Real is protecting your neighbors.

I’m in awe of JB’s heart and artistry, and I’m so excited to tell you: a duet version of “REAL MAN” will be out on my album HEARTLAND next week.
