It is my belief that we ALL have Phillis Wheatley moments, especially Black Women 🙌🏾

In the late 1700s, Phillis Wheatley became one of the first Black women to document our story through her autobiographical book, Life of A Slave Girl (1773). Once it was published, however, nobody believed that it was, indeed, she who wrote the book. It was too impossible to imagine a Black woman could produce fine art. That her intelligence could do this. So she had to stand up to a crowd of naysayers just to be seen. This is what we have coined a Phillis Wheatley moment.

Thank you @mvaaff for holding space for conversation.
