Have you even failed a bench press and not have a spotter?

I don’t use clips when benching especially when I’m strength training. If it’s conditioning piece or a competition where there are safety bars or straps - that’s when I have used clips. I’ve seen too many bench fail videos of people getting pinned under the bar to even chance it. 

If you’re benching by yourself and don’t have a spotter, DO NOT USE CLIPS. If you get pinned, lean the bar to one side so the weight slides off to one side then the opposing side will slide off as I demo.
