Both! This is a type of disease-fighting white blood cell, colored to highlight its different features. When responding to inflammation, this cell releases some of the proteins it has stored, including cytokines. Uncovering the way immune cells respond during an infection will help researchers better design treatments.

Imaging grantee cientista.rossana is making sure these processes can be studied at high resolution. Through a multidisciplinary collaborative approach, she is working to expand access to powerful electron microscopy for researchers across Brazil.
