127 years ago, the U.S’ first juvenile court was established in Chicago with the purpose of rehabilitating young people rather than just punishing them. We recognized a long time ago that children are fundamentally different from adults, though sometimes today, we seem to forget this truth.⁠

Our approach here at LCCR has always been and will always be a holistic one aimed at keeping children in safe spaces with developmentally appropriate support. From arrest to release and beyond, our team works to make sure each child gets the second chance they deserve.⁠

⁠Our Policy Associate Lauren talks about what the process looks like when a young person comes into contact with the juvenile justice system. The system is not perfect, but it is one of the first safeguards to protecting our children.
