Inside the Vision with Dean Meg Paul on Joffrey Midwest

This past summer, we sat down with Dean Meg Paul megpaul_dance to explore the vision behind the Joffrey Midwest Summer Intensive in Detroit, Michigan. As Artistic Director of the intensive, she leads with innovation, inclusivity, and a deep commitment to empowering young artists.

From curriculum design to legacy, from technical rigor to artistic growth, this six part series offers a deeper look at what shapes the Joffrey experience and why it continues to transform dancers year after year.

Part 1 - We begin with The Vision.

At the heart of Joffrey Midwest is opportunity. Dancers are given the choice to focus their training in Ballet or in Jazz & Contemporary, allowing them to take ownership of their artistic path. Meg speaks about developing agency and autonomy, encouraging students to think critically about how they want to train and who they want to become as artists.

This is more than a summer program. It is a space built on inclusivity, exploration, and intentional growth, where dancers are supported in shaping their own journey.
