This week, the Malcolm X College campus community proudly gathered for a dynamic Black History Month celebration honoring Dr. Christine Houston — City Colleges of Chicago alumna, Chicago living legend, and creator of the hit NBC series 227.

Dr. Houston shared powerful stories about the original characters from her stage play and how the production evolved into a nationally recognized television series. She reflected on winning first place in the Norman Lear Playwriting Contest and spoke candidly about her journey — including the challenges she faced as a writer on 227.

Attendees also had the opportunity to view and provide feedback on an in-progress documentary highlighting Dr. Houston’s extraordinary legacy, followed by an engaging conversation with the icon herself.
