Making this video made my wife and I so emotional. This young man is the most wonderful, generous, loving soul that you would ever want to meet. Putting this reel together and just seeing his smile made me cry because no one would ever know about the trips to the hospital or the countless nights up late to make sure we fed him so his blood sugar would rise. For most of us, our blood sugar is between 80-120. There would be nights where we would check Walker and his number would be 15. 😩 We would have to wake him immediately and feed him whatever we could to get his numbers in a normal range.  At the age of 17 months Walker was diagnosed with Type-1 diabetes. A disease that Walker did nothing to deserve. I was in the middle of the NBA finals in 2008 when we found out the bad news. I was so heartbroken at a time in my life when I should have been so ecstatic. At one of the greatest moments of my life, I was at one of the lowest points of my life. I would have done anything to take this away from my young son. What I have learned in the 14 and a half years since his diagnoses is, It isn’t my mission to take away his adversity but to help him become stronger with what he has to deal with. At no point in Walker’s life has he ever stopped and felt sorry for himself. Walker is the person you want on your team, in your family, on your side-period. He has always had to focus on his blood sugar numbers so his attention to detail is on point for everything. Today is Walker’s 16th birthday and I am so proud to be his dad and to call him my son.
