CNN polling shows that President Donald Trump entered his first State of the Union of his second term with a 36% approval rating, the lowest net approval for any of his addresses, according to CNN data chief Harry Enten.

In 2018 and 2019, President Trump’s net approval rating was -15 points, and -20 points in 2020. In February 2026, his net approval rating stands at -27 points: “He’s weaker than any other president this century,” Enten said.

The president also has a lower net approval rating than any other two-term president that went into the first State of the Union address of their last term since 2000.

Trump’s plummeting numbers are being driven by independents. A year ago, Trump had a -13 net approval rating among independents. Now, that number is a staggering -47 points.
