In February 2022, Cynthia Perkins, a former teacher from Livingston Parish, was sentenced to 41 years in prison for her involvement in a series of disturbing crimes that horrified the nation. Perkins confessed to contaminating cupcakes with her husband’s sperm and serving them to students at Westside Junior High. She also pleaded guilty to second-degree rape and the production of child pornography involving a minor. 

As part of a plea deal, Perkins testified against her ex-husband, former sheriff’s deputy Dennis Perkins, who received a 100-year sentence. She will serve 40 years of her sentence without the possibility of parole.
