✨ Two New Leaders. One New Beginning ✨

Yesterday was a BLAST 🤩 We welcomed our largest-ever incoming class at Convocation where over 2,000 students and community members filled the Golden Dome to celebrate the start of a new chapter.

This year’s convocation also marked a historic moment: RU-N Chancellor Tonya Smith-Jackson 
and Rutgers President William Tate joined the RU-N community for the very first time, officially beginning their journeys alongside our new students.

🎤 “As a first-generation student myself, I can recall the mixed feelings of excitement and anxiousness as you anticipate the first day of classes,” said Chancellor Smith-Jackson. “Let me put you more at ease — I promise you that we, all of us — the Rutgers–Newark staff and faculty — are here for you and will continue to be with you and support you through graduation day and beyond.”

🎶🎂 The celebration even doubled as a birthday surprise: the crowd, led by Chancellor Smith-Jackson, broke out into Stevie Wonder’s “Happy Birthday” for President Tate rutgersu 

With cheers, cowbells, music, and school spirit - plus the Weeks of Welcome Food Truck Festival that followed - Convocation reminded us that at Rutgers–Newark, you never walk alone ❤️🤍🖤
