Some weeks at Spokane Humane Society are routine. Some weeks bring several complex medical cases at once.

Right now, our STAR Fund is supporting three animals.

🐾 Rocky is just one year old and already facing a major orthopedic challenge. He has a broken ankle that will not heal on its own. His best long-term option is a total ankle replacement, estimated at approximately $9,000. For a young, large, active dog, this surgery offers the strongest chance at a full and mobile life.

🐾 Tank is a puppy recovering from parvo. Because isolation and treatment began quickly, he is showing hopeful signs of improvement and is in good hands. The lifesaving antigen costs $204 per vial, multiple vials per animal, depending on size. Our supply is nearly depleted.

🐾 Matcha began showing unusual neurological symptoms, including abnormal eye movement and tremors. She recently underwent a neurology consult, MRI, and spinal fluid testing at WSU. No clear cause has been identified yet, and genetic testing is underway. Her diagnostics so far total approximately $4,000.

Together, these three cases represent nearly $15,000 in medical care, and covering this level of treatment will wipe out our STAR Fund.

The STAR (Special Treatment and Recovery) Fund allows us to make best possible decisions based on what is best for the animal, not financial limitation.
