Lupita Nyong'o is marking her 43rd birthday with a powerful and deeply personal message. 💜

In a reflective Instagram post, the Oscar winner shared that over her lifetime she has carried 77 uterine fibroids -- having 25 surgically removed and more than 50 still growing -- with the largest being "the size of an orange." 

To demonstrate the impact, she shared photos of herself holding 77 pieces of fruit to symbolize each fibroid, writing, "This is not a rare story. It is just a rarely told one."

Nyong’o opened up about enduring constant pain and heavy blood loss in silence, saying that after breaking her silence last year, she was met with an overwhelming response from women with similar experiences. That led her to launch #MakeFibroidsCount to raise awareness and funding for research.

"My birthday wish is a world where no woman has to suffer through fibroids untreated, undertreated, or unheard," she shared, encouraging followers to donate and support research that could change and save lives.
