One of the scariest things about #Halloween is the amount of waste this festive celebration produces. 😱 Americans purchase around 600 million pounds of Halloween candy each year. That’s A LOT of wrappers.

Plus, most of the prepackaged costumes are overwhelmingly made of petroleum-based plastics that are impossible to recycle. 🤦‍♀️ We can do WAY better than that. 👏 Drop your ideas in the comments!

3 ECO-FRIENDLY HALLOWEEN IDEAS 

👻 Make something out of what you already have or buy secondhand. Thrift stores are often loaded with pre-loved costumes in addition to super unique pieces to create your own. They’re also a great spot to find decorations. 📦 Might we also suggest using your @vitacost boxes to make a robot costume!?

🎃 Ditch plastic and carve jack-o-lanterns for decorations instead (and lots of ‘em!). After the holiday, either compost the pumpkins at home, or find a local community garden that’ll accept them to compost.

🍬 Rethink your treats! Look for candy and chocolate that comes in recyclable paper packaging (like mini boxes of raisins). And, be sure to buy #organic and #nonGMO. Or, you can totally forgo the treats and give away coins, seashells or pencils!
