What’s the first place or building that comes to mind when you think of a landmark in Seoul? 👀

According to a past survey by the Seoul Metropolitan Government, when people were asked what they consider Seoul’s landmark, 48.3% of citizens chose the Han River.

The Han River isn’t just the perfect picnic spot for Seoulites — it’s also home to drone shows, fountain shows, and all kinds of cultural events. It’s basically where everyday life and big city festivals come together.

Other places that were mentioned as symbols of Seoul included:
✅ Gwanghwamun Square
✅ Royal palaces like Gyeongbokgung
✅ N Seoul Tower
✅ Lotte World Tower

Meanwhile, international residents in Seoul picked Gwanghwamun Square, the palaces, DDP, the Han River, and N Seoul Tower as the city’s landmarks.

Seoul is one of those cities where tradition and modern skyscrapers, nature and neon lights, all exist side by side. So it makes sense that everyone has a slightly different “face of Seoul” in mind.

예전에 서울시가 진행한 설문조사에 따르면, 서울의 랜드마크가 무엇이라고 생각하냐는 질문에 시민의 48.3%가 ‘한강’을 꼽았다고 해요. 

한강은 서울 시민들에게 최적의 피크닉 장소이자, 드론쇼와 분수쇼 같은 다양한 문화 행사가 열리는 공간이기도 하죠. 일상과 축제가 공존하는 서울의 상징 같은 존재입니다. 

그 외에도 서울의 상징으로 언급된 곳들은 아래와 같았다고 하는데요! 
✅ 광화문 광장 
✅ 경복궁과 같은 고궁들 
✅ N 서울 타워 
✅ 롯데타워 

한편 서울에 거주하는 외국인들은 광화문광장, 궁궐, DDP, 한강, N서울타워 등을 서울의 랜드마크로 꼽았다고 해요. 

서울은 전통과 현대, 자연과 초고층 빌딩이 한 도시 안에서 공존하는 곳이죠. 그래서 사람마다 떠올리는 ‘서울의 얼굴’도 조금씩 다른 것 같아요.
