As a part of Women's History Month we want to celebrate some of the women in Headache Medicine that have made a significant impact in the lives of those who love with migraine and other headache disorders. 

Join us in acknowledging and congratulating migraine patient advocacy pioneer, Mary Franklin 💜

Mary began her journey in headache medicine in 1970 at Diamond-Baltes Medical Associates. By 1974, when the practice became the Diamond Headache Clinic, she was leading the biofeedback department after helping introduce innovative approaches following a visit to the Menninger Clinic with Dr. Seymour Diamond.

Over four decades, Mary served in many leadership roles at the clinic, retiring  in 2011 as Vice President of Administration and Publishing, where she supported research initiatives and served as Managing Editor of Headache Update.

Just four days later, Mary joined the National Headache Foundation, where she later became Executive Director, helping elevate patient voices through education, advocacy, and collaboration across the migraine/headache community. She also served as Managing Editor of Head Wise and helped strengthen partnerships across organizations through CHAMP (Coalition of Headache and Migraine Patients).

Mary has been a passionate advocate at every level - participating in Headache on the Hill, establishing Migraine University, and supporting the community through Miles for Migraine events.

Even after her 2020 retirement, Mary continues to serve the community as a board member of ClusterBusters, the Association of Migraine Disorders, and the Headache and Migraine Policy Forum, and as a proud Miles for Migraine Ambassador.

After nearly 56 years of dedication, Mary’s impact on the migraine and headache community is immeasurable. Thank you, Mary, for lending your voice and leadership to so many.
