#JerrodCarmichael will make history when he hosts the 2023 #GoldenGlobes, becoming the first-ever Black solo emcee since the awards show launched in 1944. This follows years of controversy for the embattled Globes, including when legions of viewers — and broadcast partner NBC — boycotted the show for the Hollywood Foreign Press Association's lack of membership diversity. The organization's president, Helen Hoehne, celebrated Carmichael's hosting announcement in a statement: "His comedic talents have entertained and thrilled audiences while providing thought-provoking moments that are so important in the times we live. Jerrod is the special kind of talent this show calls for to kick off the awards season.” Carmichael's Emmy-winning comedy special, #Rothaniel, helped raise his profile in 2022. The ceremony will air January 10, 2023 at 8 p.m. ET on NBC.
